Yoga Studio

2017, Commercial project
The client for this project was a renowned British artist who runs a successful art studio, yoga retreat, and AirBnB business in Northamptonshire. They wanted to improve the offering for the yoga retreat and my company consulted with her on attaining a rural development grant. As with many similar projects this required a new building, which would need planning permission to be awarded the grant.
Previously I had drawn up very simple, usually agricultural/steel barn buildings, or drawn up a basic building and worked with the clients' own architects to develop the scheme properly. However for this project I took the full building design on myself, with support from a consulting architect.
The scheme is designed to integrate with the lake and its surroundings, providing a peaceful setting for a multi-functional yoga studio and overnight accommodation for 8 people. The structure blends in to its wildflower meadow environment on approach though use of an earth bank and wildflower roof.
The scheme was granted planning permission and a full grant. Below are some concept drawings.
